Staff Accountant
Location: Downtown Chicago (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office)
Compensation: $60,000–$75,000
A leading national real estate and services organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its collaborative and long-tenured accounting team. Position Overview
The Staff Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager and be part of a 15-person accounting and finance team. The company emphasizes cross-functional collaboration, giving team members exposure to all aspects of the accounting cycle. The role includes full monthly close responsibilities for a portfolio of approximately 10 properties and offers a clear path for internal growth and promotion.

Staff Accountant Responsibilities
  • Assist with the full-cycle monthly close process, including preparation and posting of journal entries (revenue, expenses, accruals, prepaids, and cash)
  • Perform reconciliations and maintain accurate general ledger records
  • Work closely with operations to manage property-level financials
  • Collaborate across accounting functions; AP/AR responsibilities are handled by dedicated clerks
  • Gain exposure to multiple areas of corporate accounting in a fast-paced, real estate-focused environment
Staff Accountant Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience (internship or full-time within accounting)
  • Solid understanding of debits and credits and basic accounting principles
  • Strong time-management skills, ability to prioritize tasks, and a quick learner
  • Detail-oriented and inquisitive, with strong note-taking and communication skills
  • Industry experience is flexible; services background preferred
  • Strong cultural fit—team-oriented, collaborative, and eager to grow within the company
