Teaching Assistant – Early Intervention Classroom

  • Location: Davies Development Center
  • Starting Salary: $35,000/year
  • Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM

We are a family-centered pediatric clinic and early intervention school serving children ages 12 months to 5 years with hearing loss , speech/language delays , and related developmental needs. Our classroom provides a language-rich, auditory-verbal environment focused on helping young children build strong foundations for listening, spoken language, social-emotional growth, and independence.

Position Overview:

The Teaching Assistant will work closely with the classroom teacher, speech-language pathologists, and audiologists to support daily instruction and child care in a specialized early intervention classroom. This includes helping with learning activities, daily routines, feeding, diapering, potty training , and individualized communication support.

This is a full-time, hands-on position best suited for someone with experience in early childhood care who is passionate about helping children with diverse learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:
Learning Support & Engagement:

  • Assist the lead teacher with implementing daily lessons and therapeutic activities.
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups to support listening, language, and social skills.
  • Model and reinforce use of speech, signs, visual supports, and communication devices as needed.
  • Prepare and organize learning materials, visuals, and classroom setups.

Caregiving & Daily Routines:

  • Assist with feeding , including bottle feeding and food preparation for young children.
  • Provide support with diaper changing, toileting, and potty training following each child’s routine.
  • Help children with dressing, hygiene, handwashing, and other activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in all caregiving areas (restrooms, diaper stations, eating spaces).

Classroom Environment:

  • Support a safe, organized, and nurturing classroom setting.
  • Supervise and engage children during indoor/outdoor play and quiet time.
  • Observe and document behavior, progress, and developmental milestones.
  • Implement positive behavior strategies with consistency and warmth.

Team & Family Collaboration:

  • Communicate effectively with teaching staff, therapists, and families.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and planning sessions.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and learning around early childhood hearing loss and language acquisition.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working in an early childhood, preschool, or child care setting.
  • Familiarity with routines of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
  • Physically able to lift, carry, bend, sit on the floor, and move throughout the classroom.
  • Compassionate, reliable, and able to remain calm in a dynamic environment.
  • Basic understanding of child development and age-appropriate care.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with children who have developmental delays, Autism, speech/language delays, or hearing loss.
  • Training in early childhood education, CDA, or relevant coursework.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Familiarity with sign language, visual schedules, or augmentative communication tools.
